About Doctor George M. Galvan M.D.
Dr. Galvan is originally from East Chicago, Indiana, also home to San Antonio Spurs coach, Gregg Popovich. He came from a family of three generations of steel mill workers. Dr. Galvan worked as a phlebotomist and nurse’s aide during his college years and upon graduation, he became a registered nurse. He had an epiphany that changes the course of his career during his time as a nurse.
Dr. Galvan wanted to make a difference in people’s lives and have a different approach to medicine. So while working as a nurse, he began forging towards his medical degree. By being a nurse, helped him tremendously to see both sides of the fence. He completed his Neurosurgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. He was one of the first residents brought to San Antonio to restart the neurosurgery residency in San Antonio by the former chairman Dr. David Jimenez and is the only graduate to date to stay and serve the great community of San Antonio.
2009 - 2015
Dr Galvan worked for Neurosurgical Associates of San Antonio were he had the opportunity to gain invaluable knowledge regarding surgical techniques and patient management from his peers. It helped him define what kind of surgeon he wanted to become. During this time he gained a reputation for his minimally invasive as well as conservative approach to surgeries. His practice has a special emphasis on complex spine surgery and minimally invasive surgical techniques. He focused on specialized and compassionate care. Dr. Galvan strongly believes in empowering patients, so they can make informed decisions by giving them all the tools, resources and information available. Dr. Galvan supports utilizing all conservative measures before surgical options are even considered.
2015 - 2018
Dr Galvan founded TN SPINE because he wanted to follow his dream to perform medicine how he vision it should be. By using a compassionate personal approach, Dr Galvan believes that by doing the least amount of alteration to the spinal anatomy but at the same time taking care of the problem in a minimally invasive approach is important to help the patients bounce back to a better quality of life in the shortest time possible.
2018 - PRESENT
Dr Galvan learned that Christus Santa Rosa was developing new programs and great changes were coming ahead. Dr Galvan and Christus Santa Rosa came together and a great partnership was born. Dr Galvan moved his practice to Christus Santa Rosa Medical Center to help start a comprehensive spine program with the same values and beliefs that make both of them great. Christus Santa Rosa and Dr Galvan have the same mission of giving the patients the best quality of care with compassion. The goal is to give San Antonio and the surrounding area the best neurosurgical spine care possible.
